That is correct.
If you study the plans and take the top width minus the base width, you should come up with the overhang (the difference).
In many cases, builder’s omit the foot rest or even the over hang.
As a rule of thumb, the foot rest and overhang should be equal.
Making the overhang too extreme and the bar could become tippy, forcing you to firmly secure the bar to the floor.
Some recent photos in the gallery show a rustic bar with a larger than avergae overhang and that too looks cool.
