      A member asks the question:

      Quote:
why is it the total of material does not balance between the cutting and material list ? example, the 2x4x8 stud, for plan EHBP-09,section b, we have on the part list a total of 35 of 2x4x8..and on the material list, its says in the quantity 13..we dont know what to follow

In the cut list, you will see the TYPE of material to use for the part. If it says the material type is a 2″ x 4″ x 8′ board and the part is 12″ long, obviously you don’t need the whole board, you just cut the part from that type of material. For the most part the overall length of the suggested material in the cut list is not important.

However, the material list adds up the length of ALL parts of a specific type and calculates how many 2″ x 4″ x 8′ board you should need. If the SF% (Scrap Factor) is a low number and in red text, you should add one more. If the SF% is high and it’s a green number, then you should be OK.
