I want to build a variation of the kegger bar, but was wondering if the keg box needed to be that big? I was hoping to not only have the keg box there, but I would like to leave room for not only a sink on the other side, but another separate small wine fridge as well. Wouldn’t the keg box only need to be big enough to fit the keg? Is there any reason it’s that big in the plans?

Love the plans by the way!

      That’s a GREAT question!
NO!, The box certainly does not need to be that big, but I designed it big enough for one 1/4 or 1/2 barrel AND a few bottles of wine (or boxes) and maybe some drink mixes or soda.

Just slide the fridge to the left but leave at least 18 x 18 inches for the keg.
I did notice that the Black Rubber coated kegs require about 1/2″ more than the bare aluminum kegs, so 18″ should allow for any size keg.

You can also simply build a keg box to add to an existing bar.
Mine actually has the fridge mounted through a wall into the bar room. The CO2 tank and back of the fridge is behind the wall in the back room. This makes it nice and quite.

You will be pleasantly surprised just how well a small fridge works in this application. I have seen bargear’s keg box plans which basically ruins a perfectly good fridge by tearing it apart to get at the workings, then mounting them in bar. Way too much hassle.

Remeber, the whole trick is to do a good job at insulating the box. Lining the box will aluminum sheet metal REALLY makes it work well.
Use a thin layer of GREAT STUFF foam between any aluminum and wood.

If you have any other questions, let me know!

      Thanks!
      Steve
