I’m about to build the L-Shaped bar and have been studying the plans. Today I noticed that figure 2.1 shows the front bottom piece as being 100″ long. But later, in figure 2.7, the plywood top is shown as being 98″.
My question, how does one get a 98″ top out of a 96″ piece of plywood? And how does the 98″ top relate to a 100″ base (is it because it will be 100″ after we add the arm rest)?
Thanks!
Oh, also…I noticed that you suggest using oak or marble as a possible surface for the beer gutter. Would the oak or the marble be adhered to the stadard 2X4s in the plans, or substituted for them?
Thanks again!

As part of the 2005 site update and housekeeping, I am updating those old, “crappy” plans (as we speak) with new 3D plans.
The l-shaped project was donated by another member over a year ago and yes, they are not very accurate, but many people used them, making adjustsments along the way. While redrawing the plans, I see what you are talking about.
I should have a good version ready, possibly by tonight, certainly by tomorrow (Saturday) complete with a ACCURATE material list, cut list and 3D assembly guides. Thanks for your patience.
SteveJanuary 29, 2005 at 1:49 am #19567Woo-woo! Thanks for letting me know that. I was about to order supplies and I was guessing a bit. BTW, on the old supplies list, it calls for just one piece of plywood. I guess one would have to have more than that if adding interior shelves, or a bottom etc.
I also noticed on the old plans that the extra little bits on the ends of the bar (nearest the beer gutter are shown as 4″, whereas on the straight bar from which the plans were adapted they are shown as 4.5″. Not sure if they should be the same or not.
And a cut list would be awesome!
Thanks again!

The (preliminary) L-shape pdf version of the plan is now up on the site, but it is being revised daily to make it as acurate and easy as possible to build.
I have already found a few typos, by they will be corrected in the next 24-48 hours as well as adding many extra 3D CAD images & views.
February 2, 2005 at 9:05 pm #19571The new plans look good and we’ll be using them when building our bar. But we know we need t oflip them, as our “l” is on the opposite side. Does this matter in terms of cutting? I assume we just make adjustments to the assembly based on the CAD drawings?
Thanks

Nope, this is really easy to flip. Everything is pretty much symetrical. The only concern would be the bar top which you would simply mirror to get the “good” side up.
The other concern is that the ODD leg would have to be assembled in a mirror image.
Plans are to eventually include mirror images of all the L shaped bars, plus a wide variety of configuarions…
4×6
6×8
8×10
10×12
12×20 etc…Thx!
SteveFebruary 7, 2005 at 9:14 pm #19573Hi again, Steve!
Well, we’re framed and looking good! We modified at the base to allow for a refrigerator and added some shelving too.
We’re getting ready to add the top, but I’m unclear about how to proceed on the wood that wraps around the plywood top. I looked at the straight-8 plan, but I’m still not sure how things get attached.
Do you know when you might have a chance to finish that section of the L-shaped bar plan?
Thanks!
RB
Just saw your note re: the flu. Hope you’ll be feeling better soon.

As it turned out, we all came down with the flu, and I mean BAD! I have been out all week and I’m just getting back on my feet this week. It’s the worst case I have had in 10 years!
I think I lost 10 pounds in fluids alone.Surprisingly enough, it was was not the bottle flu strain.
I’ll be adding the trim detail drawing tomorrow morning, then getting the final work done on the Building Tips document and the new Kegger Bar plan.
February 14, 2005 at 7:02 pm #19576Good morning, Steve! I guess you all must be on the mend, as I see you have updated quite a bit over the weekend.
Our bar is killer. We got the top on this weekend (not the trim yet though) and wired it with 5 outlets to accomodate a microwave, refridgerator, under cabinet lights and the rope lights.
One last question from us though… On the materials list, you had us buy 1″x2″x8′ pine for parts #41 & 42. I don’t think I see those parts included in the plans. I have a hunch where they might go, but I’m hoping that you can clarify it for us. Are they used to help hold together the top and side arm rests?
BTW, we took lots of pictures and will send them when complete. We’re going to tile our bar top, and it is a wet bar as well. We adapted the plans for a 8’x6′ bar.
Thanks for your advice on the above question!

The 1x2x8′ are intended to be placed along the back base (toward the bartender) to cober the edge of the floor panels.
With nothing there, it looks rather “raw”. It was pretty much an afterthought. I will be adding a “corner” trim pair for behind the bar, where the 2 sections meet.
I look forward to seeing your photo’s!
You can upload the directly to the Builder’s Gallery or send them to : [email:18br4ghc]steve@microlinx.com[/email:18br4ghc]
Thanks for being so patient with the 2005 update and thanks for pointing out the typos!
Steve
PS: I am working on the new Kegger Bar and a new Bar Back plan.
If you are installing a bar back, are there any space limitations for your room?
The current bar back rev is going to be 7 feet high, 8 feet long!
