I downloaded the bar plans and they look fine on my screen. When I print them out you can’t understand them. Some sentences are ok but others are in symbols. I’m assuming that I am doing something wrong. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.
April 26, 2005 at 2:33 am #19608AnonymousDo you normally have problems printing PDFs?
April 26, 2005 at 4:20 am #19609AnonymousI don’t know. I don’t recall having to print anything lately. The plans come up fine but when I printed the 30 wasted pages i found that the words have symbols inserted in them. Could I possibly have something on my computer that i need to change? I figured that this was printing this way so that non members couldn’t copy the plans but i paid my membership and assumed i could use the plans. Can you help? Thanks so much.
April 26, 2005 at 8:03 pm #19610AnonymousThat’s definitely not the problem, because these pdfs don’t seem to have any kind of copy protection on them (although they probably should). It sounds like you might have something funny going on with your printer driver that may be giving you some issues.
First thing…make sure you can print a normal page ok…then we’ll check and see if it’s an issue limited to pdfs. Click on start, settings and click on printers and faxes. Right click on your printer and click on properties. At the bottom of the window that comes up there should be an option to print a test page. Click on that and see if it works correctly.
April 26, 2005 at 8:12 pm #19611AnonymousI printed the test page and it came out fine. Now what? Is it a setting that I could have on my computer? Thanks!!
May 1, 2005 at 9:01 pm #19612AnonymousWhat version of Adobe Acrobat are you using?
There is a download link right next to the plans download to get the latest version.Do the sysmbols show up when you do a print preview?
How old is your printer? It’s not a dot matrix is it?

May 1, 2005 at 10:23 pm #19615AnonymousTake a look at this page for troubleshooting.
http://www.adobe.com/support/products/readertroubleshoot.html
Or for PDF printing problems on Windows PC…
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/316508.html
This is the first report of this kind, out of a very large number of site members who are able to print without an issue.
Please follow the directions in the troubleshooter and let me know if you find something.
Thanks
SteveJune 5, 2005 at 7:55 pm #19645AnonymousIf you just can’t get you printer to print right and you are getting goofy looking characters rather than numbers or text, try using the “print as image” .
Here’s what you do:
1. Right click on the download link in the plans overview page for the plan you wish to print.
2. Select “Save Target As” and save it to a folder on your PC.
Remember where you saved it!3. Use Windows Explorer to find the file and double click on it. Assuming you have Adobe Acrobat installed, the file will open and should be readable.
4. From the Adobe document window, select “Print”. This should open a print window.
5. Select “Advanced” from the lower left of that window, which should open another dialog window.
6. From that window place a check in the box that says “Print as Image”, the close that window.
7. I also recommend going to your printer properties and selecting “Draft” mode or “Quick or Fast Print” to save ink.
8. Hit print (OK) and you should get a normal printout.
What this does is basically change the file from Postscript data to vector data and generated a “picture” of the document.
Thanx!
