I am in the cutting phase of building the 8 Foot Straight bar and I stopped myself because I am worried about two things:
    1) Can I build the bar directly on my basement carpet (i.e. should I cut that section out)?
    2) Should I drill a few holes into the frame and into the carpet/floor to secure the bar or is that unnecessary?

    I appreciate the help. Thanks!

    Justin,

I installed my bar directly on my basement carpet, did not cut any carpet away. I did install plywood on the bottom to help spread the weight out and hopefully make less of a crushing imprint should I ever move the bar.
That way your noy left with a section of the room without rug !

Once finished and you line the inside with wood, store your bottles and add a fridge that bar is HEAVY. You and a few friends would need to work together to tip it over. Look in the gallery to see pictures of my bar. I put my bar end against a wall to fasten anchors but they were not needed. Again, if needed the bar can now easily well, not so easily be moved without issues of repair work to the floor or wall.

I just built on top of the carpet and it isn’t moving anywhere. I made the mistake of builting it a few feet from my wall and it took me all of my strength to move it only a few feet. I have a feeling that I will not worry about it being tipped over.

Probak118, or anyone else that has built their bar over carpet. I would like to see pictures of your finished project if possible. All new to this and cannot wait to have our bar completed.

@rkonze – I guess the thing to do it browse through the gallery. The user galleries have a lot of useful photos. Yeah, and don’t worry, the bar won’t be going anywhere. I actually would not recommend placing a sheet of plywood under the framing, just place the base framing directly on the carpet.
The plywood might make it too easy to move.

My only concern with carpet is the cleanup of the inevitable spills. I usually cut back the carpet and install either floating hardwood, vinyl or tile flooring…something that can get wet. That or just be careful.

My bar is directly on the concrete, then I tiled around it and then transitioned to carpet.

here’s one…built direct on floor, then tiled the back bar area and carpeted around the front.

thank you. Still undecided as to what to do, we have about 2 wks before the carpet installers come to install the carpeting, much to consider by then.
