Saving Money by Entertaining at Home
Remember the days when you could throw five bucks worth of gas into your car and cruise the town all night? Well, those days may be over, unless of course you have an expendable income or drive a Prius. High prices drive up the cost of entertainment everywhere, and it is not just the fuel cost. Higher prices translate to an increase in everything from beer, liquor, and soda to those tasty little goldfish crackers and pretzels. But what can be done to lower your entertainment cost?
Building and owning a home bar to entertain at home can be one of the best decisions you can make for your home and finances. Not only does it provide a place for you and your friends to gather, but it also provides cost savings over going out to a bar or restaurant. This article will discuss the benefits of constructing a home bar, including cost savings, convenience, and added value to your home.
Having a home bar is a great way to entertain friends and family in the comfort of your own home. A home bar provides a place to relax, enjoy conversation, and share a few drinks. It’s a great way to turn your living room, basement, or outdoor space into a hangout spot. Not only is it a great gathering spot, but it’s also a great way to save money. Instead of buying drinks at a bar or restaurant, you can purchase your favorite beverages in bulk and store them at your home bar. This way, you can always have drinks on hand for your guests without having to make a trip to the store.
In addition to the cost savings of having a home bar, it also offers convenience. You can set up your bar with the drinks and snacks you prefer, and you don’t have to worry about long lines or loud crowds at a bar or restaurant. Hosting events at your home bar can be a great way to spend quality time with your friends without the hassle of going out. It also allows you to control the atmosphere of your home bar, so you can create an environment that is conducive to conversation and relaxation.
Finally, having a home bar can add value to your home. A well–crafted and well–stocked home bar can be a great selling point to potential buyers, as it adds a sense of luxury and sophistication to your home. Even if you’re not planning to sell your home, a home bar can be a great way to make your home more inviting and enjoyable.

Four years later and the world has been on a roller coaster. Fuel prices hit nearly $5/gallon in our area, then dropped back to $2.29 just before the 2022 midterms. Immediately after, the prices shot back up and now are above $3/gallon again. Eggs are crazy expensive. Why? Lumber prices have come down a little and lumber futures prices look promising, but this is likely due to increased interest rates and a downturn in homebuilding. And 8 foot 2×4 will still run you about $3.30. Not long ago that price was about a buck and a half. Buckle up for 2023!
UPDATE: 2019 and happily gas prices are still an affordable $2.39/gallon in the Midwest. But, it’s still makes so much sense to entertain at home.
As a side note, the booming economy has just seen the Dow Jones index hit a record 28,000.
Update: Gas Falls in 2016:
I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong and happily so. The unexpected drop in gas prices is mostly due to OPEC flooding the market and possibly some carefully planned relaxation of gouging. It just demonstrates the volatility of energy prices. As of September 15th 2016, local gas prices in Wisconsin are about $2.18 per gallon. Election day is coming soon. I’d expect prices to change for the worse after that date. Build that bar today and be prepare for the likelihood of higher prices in the future. Cheers!
